The National Alliance to End Homelessness provides the best research, policy analysis and resource manuals for serving homeless people. I recently received the report, The State of Homelessness in America, which I found to be very informative.
Homelessness is an issue that HOME, Inc. has been working on since 1984. Homeless prevention and diversion is getting a great deal of attention within the human services world. This year HOME, Inc. will provide counseling and supportive services to help 150 households prevent homelessness. From October to December HOME, Inc.’s housing counselors worked with 42 families. Of the 20 cases that have been closed we know that our efforts prevented 15 of those families from entering a shelter or living on the streets.
