Who We Are
Home Opportunities Made Easy, Inc. (HOME, Inc.) was the first housing nonprofit in Des Moines. We have been serving the community since 1967. We are a nonprofit HUD certified Housing Counseling Agency and Community Housing Development Organization working to help the greater Des Moines community to obtain and maintain safe, stable, affordable housing.

Affordable housing is essential for creating stable and thriving communities.
When people have access to affordable housing, they are better able to meet their basic needs and have more resources to invest in their education, health, and overall well-being.

If homelessness is the river - one of the reasons people are falling in is the lack of quality affordable housing and the lack of knowledge about renting, homebuying, and/or homeownership.
HOME, Inc. focuses on preventing homelessness by addressing the root causes of the issue upstream. We also work to help individuals and families reach the next level of stability and success. HOME, Inc. aims to help people not only avoid falling into the river, but also to help them build a strong foundation for a brighter future.

Why Don't We Just Focus on Building Houses?
We are in the forever business. We believe that you can’t play the game if you don’t know the rules.
We want to make sure we set up all our clients for success by helping them feel empowered with knowledge, support, and resources so they can go forward in their lives making educated decisions to create safe, stable housing for themselves and their family both now and generations in the future.
We make sure we are able to meet people where they are in their housing journey – be it homeownership or renting. Struggling or dreaming. We are here to help!
How Can I Be A Part of the Change?
In 1967, less than a dozen citizens decided that the housing problem could not be solved by national action alone; that national action needed sustained, vigorous, and disciplined local action to create real change. It is from our own communities that we are able to change our community.
HOME, Inc. was born from this idea, and we’re very proud of our grassroots and our history of rising to the occasion while being nimble and flexible enough to be able to change our programming to deal with the issues that people are facing right now.
