HOME, Inc. Helps Provide Opportunity for Over 7000 Students to Experience Skilled Trades at Build My Future

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 7,600 students from over 160 school districts across the state, gathered at the Iowa State Fair grounds for the Build My Future event.

Students had the chance to try their hand at skilled trades ranging from operating heavy equipment, construction, plumbing, carpentry, and many other skilled trades. Throughout the day, students were actively engaged in trying out various skilled tasks, and best of all, nail gunning plywood panels with HOME, Inc.!

In the past, Build My Future always featured a building project or some sort, but the issue was they never knew what to do with the completed projects after the event. There's only so many dog houses one person needs after all.

When HOME, Inc. was approached by Build My Future, we had the idea of having the students construct wall panels to be used in the construction of garages for our new, affordable homes. That way the students would get hands on experience, and the completed projects would serve a meaningful purpose for families in need.

Over the course of the day, the students built 18 panels forming 9 walls for 3 garages! They all did such an amazing job, and we loved getting to meet everyone!
