Leading Up to the Big Day

Giving Tuesday is a special day that reminds us all of the power of generosity and community. This year HOME, Inc. had the incredible honor of being invited by the Principal Foundation to participate in their Give Back Bash event. We were one of five nonprofits chosen to join this meaningful celebration and the experience left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

The collaboration between Principal Foundation and HOME, Inc. went beyond just the event itself. Together we designed a volunteer project that would directly benefit the families HOME, Inc. serves. The idea was to create Welcome Home Kits for the children of families who purchase our affordable homes. These kits would include toys and activities to make moving into a new home exciting and fun for the kids.

Principal Foundation generously purchased all the materials needed for these kits. From colorful toys to engaging activities -- every item was carefully selected to bring joy to the kids. This thoughtful gesture really shows their deep commitment to supporting families in our community.

The Giveback Bash

The event lasted four hours and was filled with energy and enthusiasm. Principal Foundation employees volunteered throughout the day decorating and filling the Welcome Home Bags with the donated items. Volunteers took great care in decorating each kit. The decorations added a personal touch, turning the bags into something special that children would look forward to receiving. The atmosphere was warm and lively with plenty of smiles and conversations.

One of the most rewarding parts of the day was interacting with the Principal Foundation volunteers. Their interest in our mission and the families we serve made the experience even more meaningful. We shared stories about the impacts of affordable housing and how small acts of kindness (like these kits) can brighten a family's new beginning.

Why This Matters

Creating Welcome Home Kits is more than just giving toys. It’s about welcoming families into a new chapter of their lives with warmth and care. Moving can be stressful, especially for children, and these kits help ease that transition by offering something fun and comforting.

The Principal Foundation’s generosity and support goes beyond just the financial contribution -- they also invested time and energy into making a difference. This is an incredible example of how businesses can play a vital role in community support. By engaging their employees in hands-on volunteering, they foster a culture of giving and connection. This approach benefits everyone - the nonprofits, the volunteers, and most importantly the families receiving help. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and support, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.

Our experience at the Give Back Bash was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when organizations come together with a shared purpose. We hope this story inspires others to find creative ways to support their communities!

We are so grateful to Principal Foundation for inviting us to be part of this special event. Their generosity, their volunteers’ dedication, and the spirit of collaboration made the day unforgettable. Together we are building stronger communities and brighter futures for families in need!
