Partnering for Impact - HOME, Inc. & Hildreth Construction

Hildreth team helps to deliver all of the shed panels to homeowners for construction.

In April, HOME, Inc. participated in the Build My Future event, an expo where students from across Iowa come to explore careers in the trades. During the event, we provided a hands-on demonstration teaching students about framing. The students’ efforts resulted in enough wall panels to build six sheds.

This experience created a new project for HOME, Inc. to build six sheds to provide low-income families with much-needed storage. We eagerly rolled up our sleeves and began working on finishing the construction and lining up volunteers to help us tackle each step of the process. Of course, as with any new venture, we faced some challenges along the way. In June, plans unexpectedly fell through, and we found ourselves unsure if we could complete a major step in the construction process. Worried about setbacks that could delay the project for months, we quickly looked for solutions.

That’s when we reached out to Hildreth Construction. Without hesitation, they stepped in to help us keep the project moving forward. Their team arrived with tools, trucks, and a “can do” attitude, assisting us in constructing the front panels, platforms, and trusses needed for all six sheds. They even helped deliver the panels to each family’s home, and a week later, they returned to help raise the sheds alongside our volunteers.

We were truly inspired by their willingness to say yes and lend a hand. Their support made this project possible, and more importantly, it allowed us to gift six families with secure reliable storage they wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise. It’s a true blessing to see community partners like Hildreth Construction stand with us in making a difference.

We sat down and chatted with their President, Mark Hildreth, and Assistant Project Manager, Dominic Hagar, about why they choose and continue to choose to support our work and mission:

After years of donating and supporting Home Inc.’s fundraisers, we knew we needed to do more. The shed build was the perfect fit, our team’s skills allowed us to speed up the projects that benefited multiple families, and it was powerful to see our office staff out in the field, reconnecting with the joy of building.
