My name is Nadia Treichel and I am the new Engaged Citizen Corps intern for HOME, Inc. The Engaged Citizen Corps is a volunteer organization through the AmeriCorps that provides non-profit organizations with interns! I attend Drake University and am currently perusing a degree in International Relations with a double minor in Human Rights and Spanish, and a concentration in Women & Gender Studies. I am from a small town in northeast Iowa, and I am beyond excited to be in Des Moines.

When I moved to Drake I was expecting to be closer to Target, have more restaurants to order out from (COVID safe without eating food from the dining hall every night), and making lots of new friends. However, I was not expecting to find a new family. The staff at HOME, Inc. has welcomed me with open arms and truly helped me find a place in our awesome organization.

It has been my pleasure to learn about HOME, Inc. and the programs we offer, as well as communicate with all of you through blogs and social media (follow us on social media if you haven’t already!!). I didn’t fully understand the number of people that rely on HOME, Inc. before I moved here, but knowing that our counselors take upwards of 150 calls a week to help our community retain housing – blows my mind.

Additionally, it has been an unbelievable gift to help with our second annual Hunt for Housing and help raise over $53,000 to assist our community members and obtaining and retaining affordable housing. I am grateful to HOME, Inc., and everything I have learned so far – and will continue to learn.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas for me please do not hesitate to send me an email. treichel.nadia@homeincdsm.org
